The sky turns the colour of fire and a herd of elephants moves silently through the long grass and something in you goes very, very quiet. That moment is more powerful when you are alone.
We offer two Kenya itineraries we consider among the finest solo safari experiences on the continent. Both use fly-in connections so you spend your time in wilderness, not in a vehicle on a road.
This itinerary was built for people who want to feel Kenya's full range from the raw, remote north to the iconic drama of the Mara without spending half the trip on a road. You fly between regions in light aircraft. Each morning you wake up somewhere completely different.
- Day 1 Nairobi. Your safari begins at Hemingways Nairobi, one of the city's finest addresses.
- Days 2-3 Samburu and Kalama Conservancy. Fly north into a landscape that feels genuinely far from the world. Northern Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, found nowhere else. Stay at Saruni Samburu or similar.

- Day 1 Arusha. Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Gran Melíá Arusha.
- Days 2-4 Northern Serengeti. The Great Migration from July to September, wildebeest, crocodiles, ancient sound and dust. Full days in the bush. Optional balloon safari. Stay at Nimali Mara Camp.
- Days 5-6 Ngorongoro Crater. Fly to Manyara, transfer to Ngorongoro Melíá Lodge on the crater rim. Descend into the caldera: black rhinos, lion prides, elephant bulls, flamingos. A full day inside, private vehicle. Stay as long as you like at each sighting.
- Day 7 Departure. Transfer to Manyara Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro.

When Is the Best Time to Visit in 2027?

Drier, easier game viewing across both countries: June to October and January to February are considered peak season. Animals gather at water sources, roads are clear, and skies are open.
Shoulder seasons November, December, and March, April, May bring lush green landscapes, fewer guests, and lower prices. Wildlife is more dispersed but birdlife is extraordinary.
How Far in Advance Should I Book a 2027 Safari?

Migration-season dates at camps like Nimali Mara and Sanctuary Olonana have limited availability by design.
